8 Bells for Dorlan Poirier
We mourn the loss of Doralyn Poirier who passed over the bar this week - - - and we celebrate the legacy of her years at EYC.
Since the 1970s, Doralyn had been an active member of the Club. She was someone you could count on to do a job and make it fun.
For nearly two decades she was a regular on Race Committee and rarely missed a Twilight race. She was an early part of the Master Mariner’s Regatta and part of the group that succeeded in getting the 2nd Half Opener to be sponsored by EYC.
Football fans know her from Monday Night Football and Super Bowls where she always had a pool organized.
EYC used to have a regular weekly domino players group and she was regular participant, winning more than her share of championships. More recently Doralyn was an organizer of the Mahjong group.
The January 1st chowder and hot-dogs at the close of the “Round the Island” event is another Doralyn legacy.
You knew Doralyn was in the house if you spotted her classic turquoise and white ’55 Chevy in the parking lot with the personalized license plate. In 2017 the EYC Board recognized Doralyn’s contributions to the Club by converting her Regular membership to an Honorary Membership. EYC is a better place because of her. Thank you Doralyn.
She leaves behind her husband Paul and two sons and a large hole in the hearts of those who had the good fortune to know her. We’ll see you again in that next port.
